LATF participated in the 9th RILO ESA National Contact Points administrative meeting from 11th to 14th October 2010. During the meeting LATF officer, Mr. Adan Mohamed Alio made a presentation on LATF’s present activities as well as shared our experience on issues related to wildlife law enforcement including seizures made with assistance from customs authorities and   cooperation with WCO/RILOs.

The Meeting was opened by the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Seychelles and attended by ten (10) National Contact Points of RILO ESA. The Members of RILO ESA are Seventeen (17) countries. Those who participated are from Botswana, Kenya, Lesotho, South Africa, Namibia, Mauritius, Seychelles, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The officers underscored the importance of networking and collaboration among their agencies in ensuring the international trade is always done in accordance with laws and regulations including compliance with MEAs and internationally agreed standards.

The meeting urged all the RILO ESA member countries to accede to Lusaka Agreement on cooperative enforcement operations directed at illegal trade in wild fauna and flora as well as to support LATFs efforts to fight illegal trade in wildlife in the African region.
