The 1st Bilateral Meeting between Tanzania and Zambia wildlife officers on co-operation in Wildlife Law Enforcement was held on 23rd and 24th August, 2012, in Tunduma, Tanzania under the auspices of the Lusaka Agreement. The meeting brought together officers from Lusaka Agreement National Bureaus of both countries to discuss suppression of cross-border wildlife crime. Participants shared information on several specific cases of poaching and illegal trade in wild fauna and flora (involving nationals of both countries). The Meeting also achieved consensus on developing and implementing a cross-border operational framework to strengthen collaboration in wildlife and forest law enforcement. The participants also agreed on holding regular meetings to strategize on joint law enforcement operations.
This inaugural meeting was funded by LATF and hosted by the Tanzania’s Wildlife Division. A representative from LATF briefed the delegations on the co-operative wildlife law enforcement and share experiences on similar cross-border wildlife officer’s forums in Lusaka Agreement Member States. LATF will continue spearheading such enforcement mechanisms in the region to enhance the conservation of wild fauna and flora.
