LATF held a consultative meeting at the Laico Regency Hotel, Nairobi on 13th May 2010 to discuss modalities for disposal of the 6.5 tonnes of contraband ivory seized in Singapore in June 2002. In attendance were Permanent/Principal Secretaries and senior officials representing Wildlife Ministries from Republics of Malawi, Kenya, Zambia, the United Republic of Tanzania, officials from the Zambian High Commission and the Lusaka Agreement Task Force.

The meeting’s deliberations were fruitful having culminated in resolutions that enunciated specific modalities for disposal of the ivory. The Lusaka Agreement Task Force, in collaboration with relevant Authorities of the Republics of Malawi, Kenya, Zambia and the United Republic of Tanzania will  implement this resolution together with decision IX/6 of the 9th Governing Council on the disposal by December 2010, in accordance with relevant CITES provisions and internationally agreed standards.
