Pursuant to Rule 13 of the rules of procedures for meetings of the Lusaka Agreement Governing Council and in accordance with the Decisions of the 14th Governing Council held in Arusha, Tanzania in May 2025, I have the honour to inform you that the Bureau Meeting of the 14th Governing Council of Parties to the Lusaka Agreement will be held from 18th – 20th May 2026 in Nairobi, Kenya.

In view of the significance and substantive nature of the issues to be considered, and as stipulated in rules 5, 18 and 19 of the Rules of Procedure, the Bureau meeting will be open to all Parties, other African States, the United Nations and its specialized agencies, as well as non-Party States and eligible institutions and organizations engaged in wildlife law enforcement that have expressed interest in participating as observers.

The Ministerial Segment of the Bureau Meeting, scheduled for 20th May 2026, will be preceded by a two-day Experts’ Session on 18th and 19th May 2026.

The experts’ meeting will deliberate on salient technical and operational matters pertaining to the implementation of the Lusaka Agreement. In particular, the session will review progress made in implementing the decisions of the Governing Council, alongside LATF’s operational and performance reports as well as consider the proposed Programme of Work and Budget for the FY 2025/2026. The experts will also evaluate the report and recommendations of the Technical Working Group on LATF institutional reforms, with a view to enhancing its governance, effectiveness and sustainability. These deliberations will culminate in clear strategic guidance on priority interventions and the way forward by the Governing Council.

Arrangements regarding the venue and logistical details are currently underway. The formal invitation letters, the provisional agenda and relevant working documents will be circulated in due course.
